Some families know a great deal about their roots; others know very little. This site is an attempt to record what I've learned about our family history. In these modern times, families tend to be scattered all over the country, if not the world. One of the goals of this web site is to help our family stay connected even though we live far apart.

The Cudmore Crest and Seal is a Griffin on all four feet for the Devon family, granted 1620.

This shield represents the first known Coat of Arms belonging to the Cudmore's. It was granted to a member of the Devon family in 1620.

The illustration of the coat of arms is taken from an old heraldry record. Both the Devon and Essex shields have the castellated red bar across the centre.

We live in Charters Settlement, New Brunswick, Canada and we would enjoy hearing from you.

grandfather George Cudmore 1886-1958 married 1927 to Mary Ann Bell 1900-1938,
g grandfather William Cudmore 1855-1933 married 1878 Martha Cole 1861-1936,
gg grandfather Robert (Sr) Cudmore 1826-1881 married 1850 Maria Fiddler 1829-1911. They moved, about mid 1800's to the Appin Road (Lot 30) and bought a new farm after leasing land in Winslow Road (Lot 33).

We have more info on brothers and sisters of these Cudmore's and will share information. More family tree information is further down on this page. We also have a wealth of information on the other people mentioned above and are always looking for more.

Our origins began in Devonshire, England. The various family members then migrated to Canada, Australia, Ireland, Scotland and the United States.

We began researching our Family Tree in 1986. It was very slow going during the first few years. Due to the early death of my fathers mother Mary Bell, the older boys were put in the orphanage, Carrie who stayed at home, Ron who was raised by neighbours William Gillespie and his wife, and Florence (Lillian) was adopted by the Coulson family as that was her Mom's last request. John and George were supposed to be returned home as they became of age (14-16), however they returned when they were 11 and 12. Over this period of time the family farm had been lost and my Grandfather George stayed on as a share cropper until his death in 1958. Aunt Lillian was found again in 1961 and the family was finally reunited.

Contact was made with other Cudmore's from Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Ontario and better connections were discovered. Then through the internet we discovered Elsie Ritchie, who was researching the Cudmore name for a Cudmore History book , "For the Love of the Land", and with her assistance as well as Nigel Evans we have been able to fill in many more ancestors.

Our Cudmore side of the family can be traced down from Hugh Cudmore/Rebecca Dyment by way of their son:

Deidre born 1 Aug. 76 is married and lives in Ontario with her husband Dwight. She has blessed us with 2 Grand Daughters to date. We are very proud of her.

Amanda born 22 Feb. 91 is Dad's little girl. She loves computers and helping with carpentry. She is doing very well in school and we are pretty proud of her too!

Serena born 4 Sept. 98 is a little sweetheart. She lives in Ontario with her mother and father and sister. She is starting to like having a little sister.

Reanna born 1 Dec 99 is the newest addition to the family. Very quiet so far but we're sure she'll soon be running the house with her big sister.

Deidre, Serina, and Reanna are having fun posing for the camera. Serena is the ham, and will teach her little sister how to get the world's attention.

Mary with the GrandDaughters. I'm not sure but there could be a touch of pride on Oma's face, or it could be something out of Serena's mouth!

Amanda Wins a Lolly-Pop at Fun Day!!!! This 10 Kg sucker could be the cause of many trips to the Dentist!!!

Hello everyone! My name is Mischief. I was found abandoned in a ditch in New Brunswick, staving to death, needing a new home. I don't really remember how old I was, but I was very tiny.

This little girl, Amanda, decided to take care of me and nurse me back to health. She took me home to Nova Scotia and I was a little scared of that dog, Meagan, but we have become pretty good friends. It sure is nice to be wanted again. We moved from Truro to New Brunswick and I'm sort of home again.

When there is more time I'll have some pictures taken and put in here.
 

Hello Everybody!!!!!

My real name is, lets see, Hollybriars Meagan Amber.

I was born Feb. 7, 1996 and love to have fun. I really love kids and cats and dogs and nature. Oh I almost forgot I really love Mom and Dad. Cause they give me treats and play with me a lot.

My best friend was Tigger the cat. We played and chased each other around the house, sometimes he got cranky and scratched and bit me, but I'm pretty tough and he didn't really scare me! He will be missed a lot. I have a new cat friend now named Mischief, he sure does get into a lot of trouble.

The West Highland White Terrier, according to notable authors originated at Poltalloch, Scotland, where they had been bred and maintained for more than 100 years prior to their appearance at dog shows. In 1916 Colonel Malcolm of Poltalloch said that his father and grandfather both kept them. It is probable that the lineage of the Malcolm dogs goes back to the time of King James I, who asked for some "earth-dogges" out of Argyleshire. The Original West Highland White was probably a white Cairn destroyed on account of its colour. Years ago the breed was known as the Roseneath Terrier, also as the Poltalloch Terrier. The name Roseneath was taken from the Duke of Argyll's place in Dumbartonshire, Scotland.

It is likely that the West Highland White terrier and all the terriers of Scotland came from the same stock; the Scotties, Cairns, Dandie Dinmonts, and West Highland Whites are branches from the same tree and its roots.

The fact that Scotland was the natural home of the badger, fox and otter partially accounts for the evolving of short legged breeds in that country. West Highlanders are one of the most vivacious breeds and every look and attitude is expressive of intelligence and activity.

Hello, its just purrrrfect that you stopped by for a visit. I am sad to say that I can no longer protect my family. I got a terrible disease and although I fought the good fight, I lost the final battle in December 1999.

I always liked to be up high and watch the action of my good friend Meagan (a pesky, bothersome dog). I kept my family under close watch and made sure they were always safe from harm.

I was 14 years old and had seen it all. After two serious operations I felt like I could still take on the world.

I was born May 1985 in Nova Scotia, Canada and lived my first few months as a barn cat. Times were plenty rough and I was pretty small. Mom, Dad, and my Big Sister (Deidre) picked me out 'cause I was the smallest but the nicest looking.

We all moved to New Brunswick where I had a field day. Nice house, lots to eat, and these people like to pet and pamper me. I liked to sneak out and bring home nice TROPHIES for them.

Then we moved to Blackburn Hamlet in Ontario. We got lots of visitors and I made sure to welcome them into our home (I'm really sorry about the hair falling out). I got a new Little Sister (Amanda) there, and I liked her a lot.

Our next stop, was Pembroke in Ontario. I think Dad said it was near Armpit or Arnprior or something like that. I got to beat up lots of troublesome cats there, and brought home plenty more TROPHIES. We found that pesky dog, Meagan, around there. I remember she was pretty small, and had big floppy ears that were great to bite at. My Big Sister (Deidre) went off and got married, leaving me behind to look after everyone.

Finally we moved again, to Truro, Nova Scotia. Its close to my old home. I think that dog wore me out. I didn't bring home too many TROPHIES anymore but I could whip that dog and put the fear of CATS into it.

Anyway, that was my story, and I'm sticking to it.

My only motto has been " I have been, and always will be, your friend".

This is me and my little sister, Amanda, I protected and watched over her, especially from that dog. I'll still keep watch from above. I'm gone from sight, but will stay in your hearts,
